Accuracy Review Process
Every calculator on InterCalculator goes through a review process before it is published. This page explains what that process looks like and what we check.
We want to be straightforward about who we are — InterCalculator is an independent platform run by a small team. We are not a large research institution. What we are is careful about what we publish and honest about our process.
What We Do Before Publishing
Formula Research
Before building any calculator, we research the underlying formula from multiple sources. We look at industry references, engineering guides, manufacturer documentation, and established calculation methods to identify the most accurate and widely accepted approach.
We do not rely on a single source. If the references disagree, we investigate further and consult the subject-matter expert before deciding which method to use.
Cross-Checking
Once a formula is identified, we cross-check it against at least one additional independent source. Where recognised standards exist — such as material coverage rates from manufacturer specifications or established construction estimation methods — we reference those directly.
Testing
Every calculator is tested across a range of inputs before publishing. We check that results are consistent, get testing from an expert to confirm that the tool handles different values correctly, and that the outputs make practical sense for real-world use.
Review Before Publishing
Before a tool goes live, it is reviewed to confirm the formula is correct, the inputs and outputs are clearly labelled, and the supporting explanation is accurate and easy to understand.
Ongoing Updates
We review published calculators periodically and update them when formulas, rates, or standards change. Every page displays a Last Reviewed date.
A Note on Limitations
Our calculators are designed for estimation and planning purposes. They are useful for getting accurate ballpark figures and understanding material requirements — but they are not a substitute for professional advice on structural, safety-critical, or large-scale projects.
Results can vary based on local conditions, material specifications, waste factors, and other variables that a calculator cannot account for on its own. We always recommend using our tools as a starting point and consulting a qualified professional where the stakes are high.
Spotted an Error?
If you believe a result is incorrect or a formula needs updating, we want to hear about it. Accuracy feedback is reviewed and acted on.
